MORE ABOUT REBECCA SHAW, CCH

Rebecca Shaw, CCH is a self-help expert, having spent almost 3 decades studying various aspects of personal development ideas and techniques including hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming, guided imagery and past life regression.
Rebecca was raised in metropolitan Washington, D.C. After attending the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, she moved to southern California in 1991.
For several years, Rebecca sought out the services of a hypnotherapist. The results were so impressive that Rebecca decided to change careers from engineering and study hypnosis. In 1994, she attended classes at Orange Coast College and earned a Certificate in Hypnosis. Immediately upon graduation, she began sharing a professional hypnosis practice with partner Laurie Miller, CCH at
Hypnosis Concepts, a partnership which lasted thirteen years. During that time, Rebecca continued extensive training, studying the personal development ideas of Anthony Robbins, Wayne Dyer and Richard Sutphen. She went on to earn a California State recognized certification in Guided Imagery with pioneers in the
field Chuck and Patti Leviton. She gained further certifications in Past Life Regression from Henry Leo Bolduc and Richard Sutphen who have both published many books on the subject.
Today, Rebecca Shaw is an expert in smoking cessation and weight loss and has been a constant lecturer at universities and other learning institutions for
years. She speaks on how to use various relaxation techniques and strategies to overcome addictions, insomnia, and unwanted habits. She has lectured to
students and corporations on how to incorporate meditation and relaxation techniques into their lives to overcome chronic stress and chronic disease.
Rebecca used various naturally birthing techniques to assist in the birth of her own two children and regularly uses progressive relaxation to help them
fall asleep after a busy day. She has already begun to expose her children to the ideas of empowerment and being in charge of their own happiness based
upon their thoughts and beliefs.
In late 2006, Rebecca Shaw moved with her husband and two children to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

What's a typical day like? I meet clients and explain that hypnosis works to
release unwanted behavior patterns like smoking, overeating, fear of public
speaking and insomnia. The mind and body are completely relaxed, yet you are still
aware of your surroundings.Once hypnotized, I give positive suggestions to
release the unwanted habit.
How did you get your job? What's your background? As an engineer for eight
years, I did quite a bit of computer programming. The scientific part of me is
interested in how the mind stores information. I started taking classes in
hypnosis, and was approached by a professional hypnotherapist who felt I had the talent
to make hypnosis a career. I went on to take the required courses to be
certified and started working right away.
What do you like most about your job? I love helping people make changes. I
have seen people who have been overeaters or smokers for decades make changes
in a short time.
What would you change about your job if you could? I wish that insurance
companies included hypnosis as part of available and compensated treatment. The
American Medical Association has approved hypnosis to treat chronic problems for
more than 40 years.
What's the most amusing or embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you at
work? Many people think that I have the power to make them bark like a dog,
cluck like a chicken or do something against their will. They fear losing control
- but they don't.
What advice would you give to someone who wants a job like yours?
Take at least 1,000 hours of study and get certified by a nationally
recognized hypnosis organization. Use hypnosis extensively for yourself. Join a
professional hypnosis organization to network and keep abreast of the laws regulating
the industry.
What was the biggest hurdle you faced on the job, and how did you overcome
it? Overcoming people's preconceived notion of hypnosis as mind control. I have
built trust with professionalism, integrity and a thorough knowledge of the
subject.
What motivates you to do your best on the job? The satisfaction of seeing
people achieve the results they want, and seeing them happier and more
self-confident because of it.

What do you do? I am a Certified Consulting Hypnotist specializing in assisting people with smoking cessation and weight management. I attended Orange Coast College and was certified by the Clinical Hypnosis Center in Fountain Valley in 1993 t.
What's a typical day like for you? Hypnosis is a state of concentrated attention while relaxing that allows you to access your subconscious mind, which is a storage area for memories, imagination and all habitual ways of thinking and behaving.
I primarily divide my time between a shared practice in Irvine called Hypnosis Concepts and a health clinic called the Bodycentre in Costa Mesa. My clientele can meet me at either place. Each session lasts up to an hour and a half.
In my job, I meet a lot of critics who think my method is mind controlling. Even though this field had been recognized since 1958 by the American Medical Association as a viable health tool for the medical field, I find myself explaining to people about what I do as a hypnotist.
Because we all experience light stages of trance each time we daydream or focus our attention on watching TV or reading a book, I act as a guide to guide my
clients into a focused state of awareness and provide them with the techniques to release an unwanted habit.
How many hours a week do you work? 20-30
How did you get your job? What's your background? After going through hypnosis to resolve my own unwanted habits, I found I was in control of my
feelings and thoughts. Because of this experience, I took classes at Orange Coast College and interned at Hypnosis Concepts.
I have a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Virginia in Economics and French.
What do you like most about your job? I love the fact that I am empowering people to change some habit that they thought was impossible to alter.
What's the most amusing or embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you on the job? In my weight-management class, I have people picture certain
foods. I guide them to think healthy and crave healthy foods. One man in the class became so relaxed that he fell asleep and started snoring really loudly.
It started to bring others out of their relaxed state. I quickly gave them the suggestion that any sounds in the room besides my voice would help them relax
more.
What's been the biggest hurdle you faced on the job and how did you overcome it? Assessing which technique to use with which client is probably the
most challenging and exciting aspect of what I do. For example, one of my clients said that smoking controls him. During our session, I had him imagine that
there is a control room in his right brain that he can go into and rewire so that he would be in control of his smoking. He was able to quit smoking after
that.
